Minimalist Tables and Minimalism in Design:
Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, where the work is stripped down to its most fundamental features. In other fields of art, it has been used to describe the novels of Ernest Hemingway, the plays of Samuel Becket the paintings of Mark Rothko and music which features repetition and iteration, for example compositions by Phillip Glass.
The term 'minimalist' is also used to describe a trend in design and architecture where the object in question (in our case the simple table), is reduced to its necessary elements and is not cluttered with 'added extras'. These 'added extras' usually mean the design is not the simplest and most pure, whereas in design governed by minimalistic ideals this does not occur. Our minimalist tables have captured the simplest and most aesthetically pleasing forms possible we have reduced the form to fundamentals. They feature stainless steel table bases that allow extreme corner placement of the legs, and our tables only ever have four legs, even at sizes as large as four meters long! The stainless steel we use is has a high chromium content, giving excellent anti-rusting properties and is very hard. To see some more of our designs visit our stainless steel tables page. To see some coffee tables don't forget our glass coffee tables page.
Architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe adopted the motto "Less is more" to describe his aesthetic tactics of flattening and emphasizing a building's frame. It is the same with minimalist table design, in our opinion you can't have a better motto than "Less is more". This is taken to the extreme in our recent design for a minimalist table made from stainless steel rods chemically bonded to a beautiful glass table top. It is shown below.
(We also produce wood table tops)
For
the perfect accessories to our minimalist tables we also make contemporary
wooden bowls and other table pieces - they are all produced with the same minimalist ideals in mind. You can see some more 3D designs on our stainless steel tables page or a few photographic examples
in the galleries section.
